Edward Hanrahan, Chairman at ClimateCare has today commented on the news that the Committee on Climate Change (CCC) has written to the Government setting out how international aviation and shipping emissions should be incorporated into the UK’s legally-binding net zero goal for 2050.

“It is our belief that all emissions sources should be factored into the net zero goals, especially major sources like aviation and shipping. Whilst 2050 is a realistic economic deadline, which allows a gradual migration from ‘business as usual’, it is unfortunately not a realistic environmental deadline that adequately recognises the declared climate emergency.

We would strongly encourage the Government to bring forward the net zero targets for all high-emitting sectors and introduce a mandatory, economy wide price on carbon without delay.”
