Forests support the livelihoods of 1.6 billion people and provide a home to more than half the earth’s biodiversity. But the world’s forests are disappearing at an alarming rate: 12 – 15 million hectares are lost every year. This deforestation and degradation produces 7 billion tonnes of CO2 every year and accounts for nearly 20% of global greenhouse gas emissions, more than is produced by the entire transport sector.
Forest Projects help to restore and protect indigenous forests but also help to create new jobs and develop skills in the local communities
What we do
For many years, ClimateCare has helped to protect and restore forests for communities around the world.
For example our rainforest restoration programme in Kibale empowers the local community to restore the indigenous forest – the natural habitat of one of the largest populations of chimpanzees in the world. Projects like this don’t just protect the environment, they create new jobs, develop skills and support rural economies.
What You Can Do
You can help fight against the effects of deforestation around the world by supporting a ClimateCare Forest project, or creating new projects in locations of your choice.
Examples include supporting projects like the existing Kasigau Redd+ project that protects half a million hectares of forests and important wildlife, to creating new woodland in the United Kingdom.
Help protect our environment, tackle climate change, protect biodiversity and improve opportunities for people to live in and enjoy forests around the world.
- Develop new projects to protect important habitats
- Create new woodland in the UK
- Integrate forestry into your sustainability programme
