It’s UN World Water Day

As we approach UN World Water Day tomorrow, we are reminded that 780 million people around the world still do not have access to safe drinking water, although by some estimates, the number of people whose right to water is not satisfied could be as high as 3.5 billion. A key message from the World Water Day team is that private sector investment is essential if we are to tackle this issue.

You can read more about we are using our Climate and Development model to scale up safe water provision in this blog by Edward Hanrahan, published on Business Fights Poverty today.

We’re also taking the opportunity to celebrate some of the great work our corporate partners are undertaking to provide safe water through their support for Climate and Development projects.

As just one example, Jaguar Land Rover has supported the entire Busia area of the LifeStraw Carbon for Water project, helping to provide safe water to 700,000 people. Watch this suite of brand new video clips on our YouTube site to hear first hand how this makes a difference. (You can see the first in the series to the right of this post.)

And, this feature in Green Futures Magazine explains more about how Jaguar Land Rover’s approach to using carbon finance in a smart way, will create new opportunities for people around the world.

Another great example is the AquaClara project, which is supported through carbon finance by the Co-operative. Watch the short video on the right to see how this innovative project engages the community and provides safe water.

You too can take action and support projects like these that both cut carbon and provide safe water.
