Scorzè (Venice), May 3, 2016 – Acqua Minerale San Benedetto, a company in which sustainable innovation is seen as central to the corporate policy, is working with climate and sustainable development experts ClimateCare, to help improve life for communities in the Pamir region. This mountainous area in the southeast part of Tajikistan, north of Afghanistan, is also known as the roof of the world.
Through ClimateCare, San Benedetto is supporting the Pamir Hydro Project – a hydroelectric plant with two 14 MW turbines that provide 94,000 MWh of clean and reliable energy each year. The plant reduces demand for wood fuel, protecting local woodland, reduces carbon emissions and, by providing reliable power, is helping to reinvigorate the local economy.
San Benedetto has always focussed on improving its environmental and energy efficiency performance and the entire team take great pride in the company’s responsible approach.
By purchasing enough carbon credits to offset all the carbon emissions associated with the production of its EcoGreen Product line, the company is not only reducing global CO2 emissions, helping to tackle climate change – it is helping to change life for the community.
Thanks to the Pamir Hydro Project, for the first time in 15 years, the region’s homes, schools, government buildings and shops have uninterrupted power. The energy generated is also exported to 3,500 homes and shops in neighbouring Afghanistan, with more exports planned in the future. Residents say that now, thanks to the electric grid renovation “a light shines from the roof of their world”.
